How to Unlock Fishing
Fishing becomes available after you talk to Clyde at the Great Desert Oasis. Once the fishing mini-game is introduced, you can cast a line at designated fishing spots across the world. The activity is entirely optional, but it is the only way to earn the Ocean Maid Nano Suit and several useful crafting materials.
Because some spots are tied to story progression, you cannot complete the fish index immediately. Plan to return to earlier regions as new bait types and locations unlock.
Bait Types and How to Unlock Fantastic Bait
Stellar Blade uses five bait types, each suited to different fish categories:
| Bait | Best For |
|---|---|
| Small Shrimp | Small fish |
| Wriggling Insect | Small and medium fish |
| Fish Slice | Medium and large fish |
| Special Bait | Large and rare fish |
| Fantastic Bait | Gigantic and Jumbo fish |
Small Shrimp, Wriggling Insect, and Fish Slice are available early. Special Bait is unlocked as you progress through the fishing quest chain and catch more species. Fantastic Bait is the final unlock and is required for the largest catches, including the Jumbo entries that round out the index.
Always match your bait to the size of the fish you are targeting. Casting Small Shrimp in a spot filled with large fish will waste time and bait.
Fishing Spots
There are six main fishing locations in Stellar Blade:
- Eidos 7 Clocktower — A calm urban spot accessible once you can return to Eidos 7.
- Road to the Wasteland from Xion — The small pond near the exit leading from Xion toward the Wasteland.
- Great Desert Oasis — The spot where Clyde introduces fishing. Good for small and medium species.
- Wasteland Northern Cave — A shaded cave north of the Solar Tower that hosts medium and large fish.
- Wasteland Southeastern Lake — Also known as the Wasteland Plant area, this spot draws different species.
- Eidos 9 Atelier — Late-game spot unlocked alongside the secret Eidos 9 stage. See the Eidos 9 Secret Level guide for how to reach this area.
Each spot has its own pool of fish, and some species only appear at one location. Visit every spot multiple times as you unlock better bait.
Fish by Category and Bait
The 25 fish are divided into five categories: Small, Medium, Large, Gigantic, and Jumbo.
Small Fish
Small fish bite on Small Shrimp and Wriggling Insect. They are common at the Oasis, Xion Exit, and Clocktower spots. These are the easiest catches and make up the first chunk of your index.
Medium Fish
Medium fish prefer Wriggling Insect and Fish Slice. The Wasteland Cave and Oasis are reliable locations. You will catch most medium species naturally while working through the fishing quests.
Large Fish
Large fish require Fish Slice and Special Bait. They appear at the Wasteland Cave, Wasteland Plant, and Clocktower. Pay attention to the bobber behavior; large fish create bigger ripples before biting.
Gigantic Fish
Gigantic fish need Special Bait and Fantastic Bait. These are among the hardest catches because the reeling mini-game is longer and more punishing. The Wasteland Plant and Eidos 9 Atelier are top spots for these.
Jumbo Fish
Jumbo fish are the rarest and require Fantastic Bait. They only appear at specific spots and usually require near-perfect reeling. Catching every Jumbo fish is the final hurdle before unlocking the Ocean Maid outfit.
Fishing Quest Chain
Clyde gives you a series of fishing quests that guide you through the activity. Each quest asks you to catch a specific fish or reach a milestone. Completing these quests unlocks better bait, new fishing spots, and ultimately the final reward.
The quests also provide a natural progression path. Instead of randomly fishing, follow Clyde’s requests to ensure you unlock everything in the right order.
Rewards: Ocean Maid and Materials
The ultimate reward for catching all 25 fish is the Ocean Maid Nano Suit. It is one of the most distinctive outfits in the game and a badge of honor for patient anglers. Along the way, fishing also provides crafting materials used for other Nano Suits at the Repair Console.
If you are also chasing the Black Pearl outfit, combine your fishing trips with beverage can hunts. Our Collectibles Guide can help you knock out both long-term goals at once.
