Stellar Blade Best Skills Tier List

The best skills to unlock first in Stellar Blade, ranked by survival, DPS, and Beta/Burst value.

Last verified: 2026-07-02

Introduction

Stellar Blade gives you five skill trees to develop: Attack, Survival, Beta, Burst, and Tachy. With so many choices, it is easy to spread your Skill Points too thin. This tier list ranks the abilities you should prioritize first based on survival, damage output, and resource generation.

Skill Trees and SP

You earn SP EXP by defeating enemies and searching corpses. Once enough EXP is gathered, you gain a Skill Point that can be spent at any camp kiosk. If you want to respec, purchase an SP Initializer from a vending machine or Sisters' Junk in Xion for 200 Gold. Resetting lets you refund points from a single tree and reallocate them, which is useful when you unlock late-game Beta and Burst skills.

S-Tier: Build Around These First

These skills shape the entire game.

  • Perfect Parry — Not a purchasable skill, but the most important layer of combat. It negates damage, charges Beta Energy, and opens Retribution attacks. Its supporting skill, Focus Boost, is listed in A-tier below.
  • Triplet — The Beta Skill mapped to L1 + Square. It deals strong single-target damage and its final hit stuns, setting up Retribution.
  • Shield Breaker — A Beta Skill that strips enemy shields quickly. Charged use deals even more shield damage.
  • Blink — Automatically added to your moveset through story progression. It is the only answer to blue attacks and charges Burst Energy.
  • Rush / Lightning Rush / Infinite Rush — Holding Triangle dashes to an enemy. The upgrades increase range and damage, making it the best opener and gap-closer.
  • Beta Energy Recharge — Found in both Attack and Survival trees. More Beta Energy means more Triplet, Slash, and Shield Breaker usage.

A-Tier: Excellent Additions

  • Slash — An area-of-effect Beta Skill that hits surrounding enemies and stuns. Great for groups.
  • Ambush — Lets you one-shot unaware enemies from behind. Excellent for thinning packs before combat.
  • Focus Boost — Widens the Perfect Parry window. Essential for turning enemy combos into free damage.
  • Reflex Boost — Widens the Perfect Dodge window, which is especially helpful for yellow attacks.
  • Counter — Follows a Perfect Parry with a dash behind the enemy for a powerful counter.
  • Reflection — Follows a Perfect Dodge with a counter that temporarily boosts attack speed.

B-Tier: Useful but Situational

  • Double Dodge — Adds an extra dodge and more distance. Helpful when learning, but less critical once you master Perfect Dodges.
  • Chain Charge — An active Attack skill that can extend combos. Good for players who enjoy aggressive combo play, but not mandatory.

C-Tier: Niche or Late Priorities

These skills have value, but you can leave them until later.

  • Aerial Blow — Air combat is flashy but less reliable than ground parries.
  • Shockwave — A ranged Beta Skill with situational use; outclassed by Slash and Triplet in most fights.
  • Beta Energy Theft — Grants Beta Energy on Ambush kills. Fun with stealth builds, but redundant if you already have Beta Energy Recharge.
  • Rush Chain extensions — Useful for combo variety, but lower priority than core defensive and resource skills.

How to Prioritize

Your first goal should be survival. Buy Focus Boost and Reflex Boost, then add Rush upgrades and Counter. Once you are comfortable defending, invest in Triplet and Slash upgrades, followed by Shield Breaker. After that, branch into Burst skills and whatever fits your favorite Exospine build. For defensive equipment pairings, see the Best Exospines guide.
